*** 2003 Preservation Award Winner ***

Honored this year to receive the Derry Township Historical Society's Annual Preservation Award is a single family home on the corner of Cedar Avenue and Linden road. The home was built around 1940 by John and Grace Reese. John Reese was the President of H.B. Reese Candy Company until it was sold to Hershey Foods Corporation in 1963. The original home boasts an all brick exterior, oak hardwood flooring and gumwood doors and trim.

The home at 72 Cedar Avenue was sold to S. Keith and Ten (Reese) Hoover, granddaughter of John and Grace Reese in 1990. The home has been modernized with many remodeling projects since 1990. The recent addition, completed in 2001, includes a master bedroom and bath, large entertaining and dining area, walk-in pantry and mudroom on the first floor and a bedroom on the second floor. The project was in the planning stages for over two years before construction was started. Special attention was given to blending all aspects of the new project with the original architecture of the home.

A large patio and fountain, which have incorporated the original limestone wall and steps, complete the outside entertaining area at the rear of the home. Professionally designed landscaping adds the finishing touch to the entire property.
