VIRGINIA GARDEN WEEK, THE GARDENS OF ALEXANDRIA

While we don't have a photo, we can share that the day was delightful...the homes and gardens were in close proximity to each other which gave us time to linger.

THE BARNES MUSEUM, FAIRMOUNT PARK WATERWORKS AND BOATHOUSES

The magnificent collection of art at The Barnes Museum is now open to the public.  Enjoy a personal greeting and orientation upon arrival.  Your visit is enhanced by hand held audio guides.  Lunch follows at historic City Tavern followed by a park house guide escorting your Schuylkill Stroll describing the boathouses and sculptures along the parkway.  Tour the Fairmount Waterworks and beautifully manicured grounds and marvel at this city innovation that made Philadelphia a leader of the Industrial Revolution.

BALTIMORE TROLLEYS, STREETCARS AND RAILROADS

B&O Railroad - Your monopoly game will have new meaning after a visit to the nation's oldest and most comprehensive collection of railroad history.  A special exhibit "The War Came by Train" examines the role of our nation's railroad system during the Civil War, from straddling a divided country to bearing President Lincoln's body home to Illinois.

 After a train ride and box picnic lunch (included) in the rail yard pavilion, travel to the Baltimore Trolley and Streetcar Museum to tour the trolley barn.  Ride a streetcar. Imagine a time when Chocolate Avenue was serviced by trolleys and street cars.  Free time for dinner or shopping at Inner Harbor.

THURSDAY, JULY 18 - FRIDAY, JULY 19            REGISTRATION DUE JUNE 1! 
JIM THORPE - ONE TOWN'S STRUGGLE: SURVIVAL, BUST, and REVIVAL

DAY 1 - Explore a jail house and a mansion on this two day "getaway" to this intriguing town tucked in the northern corner of Carbon County among state gamelands and barren coal mines.  Learn how and why an Olympic athlete from Oklahoma is honored here.   Visit the Old Jail where seven of the Molly Maguires were hanged.  Take a ride into the mountain.  Visit the coal miners' once perilous workplace.  Lodging at the Hampton Inn with dinner included at a nearby restaurant.  Evening on your own.   

DAY 2 -Take a train ride with a spectacular view of the Lehigh River Gorge.  Tour the mansion of Asa Packer, railroad magnate, philanthropist and founder of Lehigh University.  Admire the inside of this grand home, built by one of America's first self-made millionaires.  Enjoy lunch on your own and visit the unique shops in downtown Jim Thorpe.

This event has been cancelled as the minimum number of participants was not met by the May 1 deadline.  We will try again next summer!

DELAWARE - FIRST STATE - FT. MILES - REHOBOTH - DOVER AIR FORCE BASE

Day 1  The First State is the first choice for many Hershey residents during the summer heading for the beaches of the Atlantic coast, but did you know that during WWII, Delaware was the first line of defense against German U-Boats?  A late fall afternoon stroll on the Rehoboth Boardwalk with a fascinating, fun evening about Women Spies

Day 2 - Delaware historian Dr. Gary Wray guides us through Ft. Miles and the bunker system that guarded the coastline.  During the afternoon tour of Dover Air Force Base, learn about its current role in our military, and visit hte permanent exhibit of vintage planes and artifacts dating to 1941.

AMERICAN TREASURE TOUR AND AN AMERICAN TREASURE, VALLEY FORGE
This is a great intergenerational trip for ages 8+.  

 
Hershey Chocolate and Hersheypark put smiles on the faces of many and so will the vintage toys, dolls, games and other collections of Americana at the American Treasure Tour in Phoenixville.  After a morning of grins and giggles, step back another century to the storied landscape of Valley Forge with a guided tour of the encampment of the Continental Army of General George Washington.

A PENNSYLVANIA INDUSTRIALIST AND THE GUILDED AGE

Industrialist John Pitcairn was a wealthy contemporary of Milton Hershey and established an estate which today is a National Historic Landmark, near Philadelphia.  Vist Cairnwood, a magnificent Beaux Arts building and Bryn Athyn Cathedral, a unique Gothic and Romanesque style structure.  We will also tour the Glencairn Museum
